Hair treatment causes changes in the surface properties of the hair on specific locations. |

| The 3-D information in the image of a human hair was taken from a AFM topography measurement, the colour scale from a simultaneous phase measurement. The dark, modified areas of the hair surface are clearly visible in the phase measurement. |
| The measurement was done in "Phase Contrast" operating mode. |
