Post-Doctoral Fellow (m/f) for the Dynamics and Extreme Conditions Beamline ID27 - PDID27-1
The ESRF is a multinational research institute, situated in Grenoble, France and financed by 19 countries mostly European. It operates a powerful synchrotron X-ray source with some 30 beamlines (instruments) covering a wide range of scientific research in fields such as biology and medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, materials and surface science, and physics. The ESRF employs about 600 staff and is organized as a French société civile.
You will participate in ongoing in-house research programmes, the running of the beamline, providing support to external users as local contact, and develop your own research programme.
Beamline ID27 is a premier X-ray powder and single crystal diffraction station primarily dedicated to research at extreme pressures and temperatures. The combination of high resolution XRD and advanced sample environments (Paris-Edinburgh large volume press, YAG and CO2 laser heating systems and helium-flow cryostat) open up many new possibilities in the study of matter at very high pressures and temperatures. The successful candidate will play a major role in the running and further development of the High-Pressure beamline as well as in the other activities of the Dynamics and Extreme Conditions Group. User support will be a key activity which will provide much opportunity for collaborative work at the frontiers of the field. Beamtime will be set aside for in-house research and the post-doctoral fellow will be given the opportunity to develop his own research programme in close collaboration with the beamline team.
You should hold a first degree and Ph.D. in physics, geophysics or materials science. You will beexpected to have already conducted and published a significant amount of research work. Experience with high-pressure techniques and good experimental skills are essential. Synchrotron radiation experience, more particularly in diffraction techniques, is also very desirable.
Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 to 18 month-period.Only candidates holding a Ph.D. obtained less than 3 years ago are eligible for Post-doctoral positions.
