Organization Description:

The Institute: CIC nanoGUNE, located in San Sebastian, Basque Country (Spain), is a R&D center created recently with the mission of conducting basic and applied world-class research in nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Job Description:

We are seeking candidates to fill a PhD position in experimental physics, in the field of molecular science on surfaces.

The project: The goal of the research project is to identify and characterize how electronic current
dissipate energy inside a single molecule device. This will be achieved through the resolution of
vibrational, optical, magnetic and electronic excitations using a Low Temperature Scanning
Tunneling Microscope combined with noncontact Atomic Force Spectroscopy and Optical
Spectroscopy.

The research group focuses on the study, and manipulation of the properties of materials at the atomic and molecular scale. The group combines various methods of probe microscopy and spectroscopy with a wide variety of synthesis, growth and characterization techniques within the local environment of nanoGUNE.

The city: San Sebastian is a middle sized city lying directly at the Atlantic seacoast and surrounded by a sensational environment of hills and mountains full of tradition and nature. The city is close to the French border, showing a dynamical cultural scene and renowned for its Basque cuisine.

Requirements:

We are looking for: Candidates with a degree in Physics, Chemistry or a related field with motivation, interest for learning, hands for experimental work, analytical thinking, proficiency in English, computer-based tools and scientific writing abilities, social skills.
