Job Description:

Within imec’s Life Science department, our group’s research activities focus on the development of novel tools for diagnostic health care applications. Current projects vary from lab-on-a-chip systems and PCR devices to the sensing of biomarkers directly in blood. Such technologies require a multidisciplinary approach within a team that has expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, and surface chemistry. Especially for our DNA and RNA related work, we are looking for an enthusiastic employee eager to work in imec’s bio-labs to shape tomorrow’s health care technologies. We aim at research at the highest international level and with relevance for the biomedical and pharmaceutical industry.

We are looking for a researcher with a strong scientific background in the field of DNA technologies with some experience in experimental, technical set-ups. We are looking for an outstanding experimentalist who is highly motivated to work in a lab environment on a daily basis together with our engineers.

This person will have to:

Define, analyze and interpret biological experiments accurately;
Advise engineers towards successful experiments for DNA assays;
Bring ideas for setting up new research experiments and implement DNA assays in lab-on-chip;
Independently develop, optimize and deploy your lab experiments, as a member of a closely collaborative team;
Improve experimental, technical set-ups.

Requirements:

You have a Master’s degree in bio-engineering or equivalent by experience.
It is absolutely mandatory that you have extensive, in-depth experience in core molecular biology techniques, including sample prep, RT & qPCR, RNA/DNA extraction, DNA array and spotting techniques, assay development.
You have experience of working in a research lab and you are planning a career to solve scientific challenges by performing hands-on experiments in a laboratory.
You have experience in electronics or experimental set-ups.
You are a team player.
You are fluent in English and have excellent communication skills.
