Two Theory Scientists or Postdoctoral Fellows (m/f) - Ref 2143 & 2152
The ESRF is a multinational research institute, situated in Grenoble, France and financed by 19 countries mostly European. It operates a powerful synchrotron X-ray source with some 30 beamlines (instruments) covering a wide range of scientific research in fields such as biology and medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, materials and surface science, and physics. The ESRF employs about 600 staff and is organized as a French société civile.
The Theory Group is recruiting two theoretical condensed matter physicists with ambitious and original research projects in the following areas (non-exhaustive list): magnetism, correlated electron systems, nanostructures, ultrafast dynamics, condensed matter under extreme conditions, etc. As one of the tasks of the Theory Group is to provide theoretical support to ESRF experimental scientists and users, research projects related to experimental activities at ESRF beamlines are particularly welcome. The ESRF is a research facility with a strong in-house research programme. It supports scientists in the implementation of fundamental and applied research in the fields of solid state physics, chemistry, soft matter, biology, etc. Since its inception, the Theory Group has focused on the structure and electronic properties of condensed matter. It closely collaborates with the Theory Group of the neighbouring Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL). The ESRF Theory Group has a staff of four scientists and post-doctoral fellows. In addition, a visiting scientist programme is supported.
You should hold a PhD in physics. The following qualities are essential: the ability to interact with staff and facility users at all levels, and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
