Nanotechnology - NanoTRAINforgrowth COFUND Fellowship program
The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) is the first fully international research organization in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology registered in the United Nations. INL has an International Governmental Organization (IGO) legal status and is the result of a joint decision of the Governments of Portugal and Spain (but open to accept membership from other worldwide countries). INL provides a state-of-the-art research environment promoting an interdisciplinary effort in addressing the major challenges in the emerging areas of Nanobiotechnology, Nanoelectronics, Nanomedicine and Materials Science at Nanoscale.
INL´s campus extends over a total area of 47000 m2, with a construction area of 26000 m2. This includes laboratories and cabinets with 7500 m2, and a clean room area of 1000m2for 200mm wafers devoted to novel beyond CMOS and More than Moore devices (e.g. NEMS, spintronics, carbon and graphene based devices, nanophotonics, etc.). One of the aspects that stand out at INL is its infrastructure that provides a high-tech research environment formed by state-of-the-art infrastructure equipped with the latest technologies. The scientific infrastructure also comprises central laboratories and specialized laboratories associated with individual Principal Investigators (PIs) or research groups and research topics. INL has a group of about 40 individual laboratories for researchers. The micro and nanofabrication is done in a cleanroom that includes seven bays with Class 1000 and Class 100: RIE/Films Deposition; Hot Process; Wet Process and Planarization; Photolithography and Nanolithography.
The complete research area includes around 40 laboratories divided between wet and dry areas. The Wet Labs are laboratory spaces closer to group office space, available for PIs and their research teams to use equipment for synthesis, catalysis, and other wet chemistry experiments. The Dry Labs are also laboratory spaces where PIs and their research teams install and use equipment for characterization and dry experiment techniques. The PI Support Labs, are common capabilities that support the Nanofabrication Clean Room, these include: High Frequency device characterization & Nanostructures Fabrication Lab (Nanoparticle, nanotubes, etc.).
It is also especially worthwhile to mention the High Accuracy Labs, providing an extremely low vibration EM, AFM and XPS.
NanoTRAINforGrowth Fellows will have access to new state-of-the-art infrastructure and will have the opportunity to enhance their expertise via a research project, in a scientific topic of their choice, and which is within INL´s strategic research and technological development areas: Nanomedicine, Food & Environment Control, Nanomanipulation and Nanoelectronics.
