Job Description:

Job description
The Fab Process Engineering (FPE) Director leads the Process Engineering group of Managers, Engineers, Scientists, and Technicians. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Fab Engineering and Operations. The FPE Director is responsible for managing the Engineering teams to meet customer deliverables on  programs for the following processing areas: litho, dry etching, metrology, plating, CMP, wet, thin films, EPI and assembly. This department currently employs approximately 75 team members. You coach and motivate the department managers and members, using imec’s HR tools and guidelines.

This position has additional responsibilities within the customer and supplier engagement as well as facilitating existing research activities and stimulating new initiatives. Together with experts from each respective field and based on input from the business lines, you develop a short and long term operational plan for the department. You translate targets into specific milestones for the department members. You set the right priorities in order to ensure high quality process development and follow up on work progress and planning in order to reach those milestones (cf. balanced scorecard, definition and follow-up of proper key performance indicators, ...).

You provide adequate process support for the business lines (Unit Process Modules) by defining appropriate infrastructure. You also organize and facilitate the necessary communication inside and outside the department in order to inform the programs and other organizations on progress and problem areas.

You follow up on new technology trends and guarantee the readiness of the department for next generation technology nodes at any time.  You define the process controls and improvements needed to ensure process stability.

Finally you establish a proper network with equipment and material suppliers as well as an important group of imec partners. You look for opportunities to get the proper hardware infrastructure at imec and to have access to new materials in order to support our programs.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • providing technical and managerial direction to projects and processes in development and/or production;
  • selecting, developing, and evaluating personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the FPE function within imec;
  • working with Sales & Marketing to transfer identified customer demands into new offerings by imec (Demo’s, Pocket wafers, etc...);
  • managing the department’s budget;
  • coaching and developing direct reports, and HR management of the department;
  • participation in the formation of the IP portfolio and patent related topics;
  • managing continuous improvement plans and activities across the department;
  • developing and maintaining road maps for technology offerings, tool requirements, and resource planning;
  • partnering with other departments as well as equipment and material suppliers for customer solutions, cost reduction opportunities, process improvement and stability.

 
Requirements:

Profile

  • You have a PhD (or a Master degree with equivalent experience) in Science or Applied Science.
  • You are fascinated by high-level modern science and technology.
  • Relevant background in semiconductor processing is an important asset.
  • You have a proven record and experience in people, operational management and technical team leadership.
  • You are an enthusiastic person willing to take up the challenge of reaching the ambitious departmental objectives.
  • You have excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English is required as this is an international environment.
