Job description Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) takes place in a high vacuum environment with low growth rate leading to epitaxial films when the lattices are matched on both sides of the interface with eventually a small strain remaining. MBE results thus in the highest achievable quality and purity materials. An important benefit of the ultra-high vacuum is that in-situ Reflective High Energy Electron Diffraction (RHEED) can be used for monitoring in real time the growth of the interface and study the ordering of grown layers at atomic level. Molecular beam epitaxy has been used to deposit oxide materials for advanced electronic, magnetic and optical applications. For these purposes, we operate at imec also MBE systems that have been modified to incorporate oxygen sources. The imec MBE tool clusters have been a cornerstone of its research activities for into new materials in the various research domains. Further developments of and with these techniques will allow fabricating layers and structures with properties that device engineers in the past could only dream of.
Creating options for the 7/5nm logic node, screening these options and implementing them in an industry relevant context 200mm/300mm wafers size is the task of the Researcher MBE cluster.
You are responsible for the execution and interpretation of complex MBE growth experiments.
You work closely together with imec’s device explorative devices integration group to understand and improve the design of these devices.
You will work with a variety of MBE systems and will be a key contributor research activities of the team. You present research results on international conferences, and publish results in scientific journals.
You contribute to continuous improvement of existing MBE processes and tools in close collaboration with the fab engineering teams and MBE equipment manufacturers. You contribute to future expansions of the MBE tool cluster into 450mm wafer generation.
You work in a dynamic multidisciplinary and multicultural environment together with imec researchers, industry assignees, device and process experts.
You obtained a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering or Material Sciences and display a strong scientific mindset.
You have experience in Molecular Beam Epitaxy.
Given the international character of imec, fluency in English is a must.
You are an ambitious and motivated team player with good communication and reporting skills.
