Postdoctoral Researcher on Advanced Transmission Electron Microscopy

Scaling of the transistor structures below the 14nm node and introduction of 3D device concepts, results in a huge increase of the need for analysis by transmission electron microscopy. Except of applying TEM/STEM imaging for metrology applications, other properties need to be studied with nanometer resolution, e.g. chemical composition and bonding, strain or magnetic properties. We are currently looking for a (m/f) Postdoctoral Researcher to reinforce our TEM team at imec.
You will be working on the topics of TEM analysis using holography for strain analysis, 3D tomography measurements, investigation of magnetic materials with holography and Lorentz microscopy. In this position you will have the unique opportunity to work with state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment in the field of TEM. You will focus in direct collaboration with the team on:
Holography for strain analysis.
Tomography in different modes for characterization of 3D devices.
Characterization of magnetic properties with holography and Lorentz microscopy.
Optimizing sample preparation methods for these applications.
Internal and external reporting, and publishing of results in scientific journals.
You have a PhD degree in the area of Transmission Electron Microscopy of Semiconductor Materials and background related to one or more of the working topics is preferred.
Practical experiences in the area of (double) corrected transmission electron microscopy of semiconductor device materials.
You have good communication skills since you will work in a multicultural environment, and you are fluent in English.
You are able to solve problems independently.
You take initiative and have innovative ideas.
You act as a real team player towards your internal and external partners.
This postdoctoral position is funded by imec through the KU Leuven. Because of the specific financing statute which targets international mobility for postdocs, only candidates who did not stay or work/study in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years can be considered for the position (short stays such as holiday, participation in conferences, etc. are not taken into account).
