At present we hold a position in our EPI department for a (m/f) Senior Researcher MOCVD III-V Epitaxy.
In the quest for new optical and electronic applications, the classical silicon-based semiconductor industry started to introduce compound semiconductor (III-V) materials because of their exciting properties which outperform silicon. Fully in line with this new trend, imec’s R&D programs are exploring and introducing III-V materials in various advanced schemes and architectures. The Logic program which aims at further extending Moore’s law of CMOS scaling, is looking into replacing Si by III-V layers as channel material due to their extremely high carrier mobilities. In the interconnect program, optical interconnects based on III-V devices will bring the required bandwidth which cannot be met anymore by the standard electrical interconnects. Key to these applications is the growth of the required III-V hetero-structures by means of metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on 300mm Si wafers. Whereas epitaxial growth of III-V layers on Si is one of the most challenging process steps in manufacturing, it has attracted considerable attention over the last years due to its possibilities to tailor III-V materials to the desired properties in a cost effective way.
You plan and follow up the process development as member of the III-V epitaxy team.
You will be responsible for the design and interpretation of complex growth experiments.
You will provide fundamental understanding on the physical and chemical processes that govern the growth dynamics of III-V materials on patterned device wafers.
You will lead the III-V research activities of the team. You present research results on international conferences, publish key results in scientific journals and turn new ideas into IP.
You will actively contribute to the continuous improvement of MOCVD growth processes and equipment in close collaboration with our tool manufacturers engineering teams. You will share and discuss your R&D results at team and program meetings, and you timely execute process development projects.
You will work in a dynamic multidisciplinary and multicultural environment together with imec researchers, industry assignees, device and process experts.
You obtained a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or Material Sciences and display a strong scientific mindset.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in III-V epitaxy by means of MOCVD is a must, preferably at least partially in an industrial semiconductor environment.
Given the international character of imec, fluency in English is a must.
