Junior Materials Technologist
Location: Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Your expertise
Materials for Integrated Products combines expertise on materials and their processing with physical experiments and computer-aided modelling and simulation. Assignments range from multi-year multi-client research and technological development projects (including those within the context of the European Framework Programmes) to one-day advisory and troubleshooting tasks. 

The group works together with a variety of industrial partners as well as with actors from the knowledge infrastructure, including other research organisations and technical universities from Europe and beyond. The workfield is focused on High Tech Equipment and Nano& Micro electronics.

Your impact
You as a Materials Technologist are responsible for the research, specification, design and development of materials to advance technologies of many kinds. Your expertise lies in understanding the properties and behaviours of different substances, from raw materials to finished products. Potentially your work with many different materials includes:
• ceramics;
• chemicals;
• composites;
• metals;
• polymers.

Working in a diverse range of industries and customers, you combine or modify materials in different ways to improve the performance, durability and cost-effectiveness of processes and products. 

Typical work activities are:
• performing innovative research
• selecting the best combination of materials for specific purposes;
• testing materials to assess how resistant they are to heat, corrosion or chemical attack;
• analysing data using computer modelling software;
• assessing materials for specific qualities (such as electrical conductivity, durability, renewability);
• developing prototypes;
• considering the implications for waste and other environmental pollution issues of any product or process;
• working to solve problems that may arise either during the manufacturing process or with the finished product (e.g. problems caused by daily wear and tear or change of environment);
• helping to ensure that products comply with national and international legal and quality standards;
• advising on inspection, maintenance and repair procedures;
• liaising with colleagues and customers in manufacturing, technical and scientific support, purchasing, and marketing;
• supervising the work of materials engineering assistants and other staff.

Your competences
We are looking for candidates with a PhD background in:
• Chemical Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Materials Technology
• Fysics. 

Your competences include materials know-how and know-why for metals ceramics and polymers, materialography, materials-performance testing . In support of this, an extensive range of materials analysis, characterisation and testing laboratories as well as numerical-simulation hard- and software is at hand.
