Mechanical System Architect
Employer: ASML
Location: Veldhoven, Noord Brabant , Netherlands
Website: http://www.asml.com/
Employment Start Date: As soon as possible

Organization Description:

About ASML
ASML is a successful high-tech company headquartered in the Netherlands, which manufactures complex lithography machines that chip manufacturers use to produce integrated circuits. Every year, chips become faster, smaller, smarter and more energy-efficient, and breakthroughs in ASML's research activities have played an important part in making it possible. In the space of 25 years we have grown from nothing into a multinational company with 55 locations in 16 countries and annual sales of 5.6 billion Euros in 2011.

Job Description:

Mechanical System Architect
Location: Veldhoven

Introduction

Translating mechanical system architectures into conceptual designs, there lies your expertise. Together with other critical and driven professionals, you are eager to push technical boundaries: conceive, develop and realize totally new and cutting-edge system concepts. Are you the inspiring, determined and critical mind we are looking for?

Job Mission

Your mission as an ASML Mechanical System Architect is to translate high level system layout architectures into adequate concept designs, thereby enabling the optimal functionality and cost effective engineering of new systems.

Job Description
You will achieve your mission by generating system concepts and then discussing them with your colleagues from a very broad range of technical disciplines. But to ensure you get the best of your colleagues’ creative thinking and analytical skills you must communicate the abstract as well as the technical. You must express your vision, motivate feedback and mediate conflicts effectively in order to keep moving forward. In short, you must inspire.

The following tasks and responsibilities are included in your function:
• Investigating and defining layout concepts based on discussions with the relevant projects and sectors;
• Validating the concepts on:
- System performance requirements
- Manufacturability
- Serviceability
- Transportability & install
• Ensuring knowledge transfer to production;
• Contributing to system roadmaps.

Requirements:

 Education
Bachelor or Master’s in mechanical engineering

Experience
• 5 years in taking lead in creating and realizing new machine concepts or large complex modules;
• System engineering;
• Configuration management;
• Knowledge of NX or other 3D design tool.

Personal skills
• Leadership and the ability to inspire;
• Networking skills;
• Eagerness to learn new technical skills via daily interaction with like-minded professionals.

Context of the position
Creative thinking has always been essential at ASML. We make machines that are almost unimaginably complex, and work within incredibly minute tolerances. What’s more, their complexity is increasing and their tolerance margins are vanishing. That’s why we need Mechanical System Architects who can conceive a global system view that answers all of these technical challenges. A view that, when detailed-out, will help realize a machine that meets all of the next wave of new system requirements and still be feasible to manufacture, transport, install and service.

Within ASML, the sector Development & Engineering (D&E) is responsible for the specification, design and engineering of theASMLproducts. The architect reports to the group leader Mechanical System Layout and is operational within multidisciplinary, cross-sectorial projects.
