Post-Doctoral Fellow (m/f) for the High Brilliance X-Ray Spectroscopy Beamline ID26 - PDID26-1
The ESRF is a multinational research institute, situated in Grenoble, France and financed by 19 countries mostly European. It operates a powerful synchrotron X-ray source with some 30 beamlines (instruments) covering a wide range of scientific research in fields such as biology and medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, materials and surface science, and physics. The ESRF employs about 600 staff and is organized as a French société civile.
You will participate in ongoing in-house research programs, the running of the Beamline, providing support to external users as local contact, and develop your own research programme.
ID26 is dedicated to X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy. We study the electronic structure and local coordination in systems that are relevant in the applied sciences (materials science, coordination chemistry, (bio)catalysis, mineralogy and geology…). The beamline hosts unique instrumentation for advanced X-ray spectroscopies and thus provides state-of-the-art research possibilities. We also collaborate with many theoretical groups that develop codes for electronic structure calculations for X-ray spectroscopies. (For further information about the instrument please consult http://www.esrf.fr/UsersAndScience/Experiments/ElectStructMagn/ID26/). You will be encouraged and supported to develop your own research, which should exploit the exceptional beamline capabilities. You will initiate and participate in collaborative research programmes with universities and research centres.
You must hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry or a related field. Very good skills in instrumentation (e.g. X-ray instrumentation, in-situ cells, spectroscopy instrumentation …) and previous research related to electronic structure analysis are essential.
Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 to 18 month period.Only candidates holding a Ph.D. obtained less than 3 years ago are eligible for Post-doctoral positions.
The working language of the ESRF is English. For further information on employment terms and conditions, please refer to http://www.esrf.fr/Jobs/Conditions. The ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from disabled persons.
