Within imec’s Life Science department, our group’s research activities focus on the development of novel tools for diagnostic health care applications. Current projects vary from lab-on-a-chip systems and PCR devices to the sensing of biomarkers directly in blood. Such technologies require a multidisciplinary approach within a team that has expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, and surface chemistry. Especially for our protein and assay related work, we are looking for an enthusiastic employee eager to work in imec’s bio-labs to shape tomorrow’s health care technologies. We are looking for an engineer with a strong technical background in the field of microfluidics with deep hands-on experience in design, packaging and test for life sciences applications. We are looking for an experienced engineer, preferably with product development experience, who is highly motivated to work in a lab environment on a daily basis together with our design engineers and application scientists.
You will have to:
design and test prototype microfluidic devices;
develop and test packaging solutions for microfluidic devices;
perform numerical and analytical modeling of microfluidic structures;
interface with external vendors for selection of components or procurement of customized parts;
work according to agreed customer timelines and report on progress internally and to customers;
design and execute test plans together with application scientists;
manage time effectively when multiple projects run in parallel;
quickly adapt to new projects based on internal and external requests;
work closely with an interdisciplinary team of engineers and biologists.
You have at least a Master’s degree or preferably a PhD degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, bio-engineering, physics or other equivalent discipline with at least 5 years experience in microfluidic device design, packaging and testing. Industry experience is preferred, with life sciences product development experience a plus.
It is essential that you are a hands-on person with excellent engineering skills and a personal drive to achieve project goals.
You have experience working in a research or development environment involving early prototype development with subsequent transfer to product development
You have experience in microfluidics testing with experience in tolerancing. reliability and failure analysis.
You have experience in microfluidic packaging and system solutions such as bonding technologies, reagent dispensing, product cartridges and fluidic connectors.
You are familiar with microfluidics manufacturing technologies including injection molding, mechanical machining, laser machining, microfabrication or other equivalent technologies.
You have experience with Ansys, Comsol or other microfluidic simulation software.
You are familiar with Solid Works or other equivalent CAD packages.
You have experience managing contract manufacturers and/or custom design houses for development needs.
You are a team player.
You are fluent in English and have excellent communication skills.
