This 4-year course is based on physics but includes content from chemistry and biology to give an important appreciation of how all the sciences have new effects to be observed and new applications to be discovered.
B.Sc. Physics with Nanotechnology Degree Scheme.
This unique course is focused directly on this interface between the fields of electronics and nanotechnology. It covers the foundations of electronic engineering, from communications systems through to computer engineering, integrated circuit design and micro/nano fabrication. It enables you to understand the principles of electronics and nanotechnology, in particular the principles of the fabrication and design of modern microelectronic products.
You will study key topics from all the core sciences - chemistry, biology, physics, material science and electronics - alongside specialist modules in nanoscience and nanotechnology. At the same time you will experience the fascination of nanotechnology via hands-on practical work with state-of-the-art nanoscience equipment.
The degree follows the same syllabus as the BSc Physics programme with an introduction to nanoscience and other cutting-edge research provided by the Frontiers in Physics module. In year two you will again pursue the same core as for the BSc Physics course but will also take the Force and Function at the Nanoscale, and Molecular Bio- and Nanophysics modules (which replace two of the optional modules of the core course).
Electronic Engineering with Nanotechnology offers engineers a firm grounding in conventional electronics, plus the specialist skills at the electronics/physics interface required to work at the forefront of modern nanoscale device fabrication. These programmes enable you to build on a common foundation in electronics by introducing specialist modules from the second year. These modules cover nanoscale electronic devices, optoelectronics, nanofabrication and advanced experimental methods.
