The course is designed in such a way that students can explore in depth the application of nanotechnology to biomedical areas. The applications include new implant technologies, regenerative engineering, new nanomedicines to combat cancer and drug resistance, targeted medicines for treatment with reduced side effects, diagnostic technologies using nanomaterials etc.
The M Tech program leans strongly towards hands-on work and is not just a degree based on theory classes. Students are trained in the Center's nanotechnology labs and get an opportunity to participate in the Center's funded research projects grants. All M Tech students are expected to complete thesis work in nanosciences under guidance of the faculty. The program also offers clinical exposure in one of the many operation theatres of the hospital to help students develop an understanding of the medical applications of nanotechnology. In short, this is a pioneering program that aims to develop an all-round scientist and technologist with interdisciplinary specialization in three areas - nanotechnology, biotechnology and medical sciences.
University of Delhi has initiated a three years M.Tech course in the area of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The syllabus is designed to meet the challenges and opportunities that this field can offer to the society.
Keeping in view of the importance of Nanotechnology and the infrastructure available in Jamia, the Department of Physics started a two-year M. Tech Nanotechnology course in 2007 with an initial intake of 15 students, which has been enhanced to 20 students with effect from the academic year 2012-13.
