The Postgraduate Certificate in Nanotechnology is a unique online course which is taken part time. The course is ideally suited to people who are in full-time employment who seek to gain an academic qualification in the exciting field of nanotechnology. It is taken predominantly online, meaning that it is accessible to anyone in the world with Internet access.
This course is run jointly with the University of Leeds. This course package attempts to deliver the new kind of graduates required to sustain the many multi-million-dollar research and development programmes issued internationally by most industrial countries, such as the UK DTI Nanotechnology initiative.
The MSc programme is designed to provide a fundamental understanding and practical experience of developing nanotechnology, nanomaterials and nanoelectronic devices. If you are looking to develop specialised practical experimental skills using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, a research career, or the ability to evaluate the impact of nanotechnology on your technology, then this programme is for you. Participants with good industrial experience are also welcome on the course depending on their background.
The N&N degree will run as follows. From the start, you will see what effect the 'rules for the small world' have on the shape and reactivity of molecules, large and small, and on the behaviour of electrons.
Nanotechnologies and aligned industries are now well established at the Nanotechnology & Integrated Bioengineering Centre (NIBEC) at the University of Ulster. The teaching and NIBEC research facilities are truly world class and are supported by a team of dedicated staff who are active in a number of research areas. NIBEC will give you the opportunity first hand to use and become an expert in advanced instruments and facilities.
