The Department, the first of its kind in Iran, was set up in March 2003 in a brand new building to concentrate the research on all aspects of computational nano-science, and to help promote the fields of nano-science and nano-technology across the country.
Work in IPPI's 14 research departments include: Composite and adhesives, polyurethane, fibers and nano-polymers, Novel Drug Delivery System, Polymer Science, Polymeric biomaterials, process modeling and control, polymerization engineering, polymerization catalyst, gas conversion, engineering design and construction, petrochemical synthesis.

Research activities in order to meet the needs of Iran's oil industry are now undertaken in catalysis and nanotechnology research division in four groups, i.e., catalyst preparation, characterization and evaluation of catalysts, catalytic reaction engineering, and development of carbon nanotechnology.
Founded in 2005 INN intends to be the hub of Nanotechnology in the country and has the mission of promoting Nanotechnology in the university and in the country by providing a network of researchers from various disciplines and supporting activities that are related to Nanotechnology.
The lab's mission is to contribute to the understanding of Nano-Bio Interfaces, using multi-disciplinary approaches, for safe use of magnetic nanoparticles (e.g. superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles - SPIONs) as theranosis agents. In addition, the lab is seeking to set nano-safety standards.
