(Nanowerk News) On 4 February 2013 NIA will host a free webinar on the new EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, also known as Horizon 2020.

The European Commission recently launched its new research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020. In connection with the launch, work programmes and calls to form consortia for the first two years have also been announced. This helps to define and set the research agenda for these years.

Possessing a novel structural arrangement, Horizon 2020 succeeds several existing programmes (including FP7) to serve as a ‘common strategic framework for the EU research and innovation funds, which support activities across the EU’. A central aim of Horizon 2020 is to focus on the successful commercialisation of KETs (Key Enabling Technologies) in order to address numerous societal challenges; consequently funding rates for R&D activities focused on close-to-market products have gone up by between 70%-100%.

The Horizon 2020 R&D funding programmes present ideal opportunities for companies and research institutes to advance applied R&D and exploit commercial opportunities; to develop and submit the ideal and winning project proposal by the first deadline, however, stakeholders still have many questions that require urgent answers:
