AIXTRON Founder Recognized for Contribution to Semiconductor Industry
(Nanowerk News) AIXTRON AG today announced that Dr. Holger Juergensen, one of the company’s founders, had been recognized for his personal contribution to the Semiconductor industry and awarded the European SEMI Award for 2009. The award was presented to Dr. Juergensen at the Executive Summit on October 6, 2009 on the occasion of the SEMICON Europe conference in Dresden.
Dr. Holger Juergensen’s engineering vision and business drive were key factors in the early development of MOCVD technology into the highly innovative commercial deposition equipment the industry thrives on today.
He and the founding AIXTRON team saw the enormous potential in the small R&D systems they developed in the early 80s’ to become today’s mass production scale equipment. The key-enabling equipment AIXTRON has created since the company’s foundation has played a significant role in the development of the highly innovative technologies required to produce a range of complex opto-electronic devices such as LEDs, lasers and micro-electronic devices such as microwave transistors and circuits based on compound semiconductor materials.
In the 25 years, since AIXTRON was founded by a small group of people in Aachen, Germany, including Dr. Juergensen, SEMI says, he personally has not only played a pivotal role in the creation of this industry, but also he has laid the essential technical foundations for further diversification into adjacent technologies, including OLED and carbon nanotube material structures. Of equal significance; thanks to his sterling efforts there is now a clear roadmap path to the impending convergence of Compound and Silicon Technologies.
Dr. Juergensen, a member of AIXTRON's supervisory board, commenting on the award said, “I am greatly honored to receive the award; however I also feel that it reflects all the hard work that the entire AIXTRON team has put in over the last 25 years for us to become the leading supplier of epitaxial deposition equipment today, of which I am equally proud.
I would like to recognize and underline the significance and contribution of the long-term cooperation we have enjoyed with our many valued European customers and partners in industry and research – including Gilbert Declerck of IMEC, who received this award just last year. Long term quality partnerships are what drive innovation and make possible the success that AIXTRON and our European colleagues continue to strive for globally."
AIXTRON continues to play a prominent role in the research, development and production of advanced materials and devices. This involvement includes participation in many leading international programs in either a leadership or collaboration role with academic, industrial and leading manufacturing partners. To support these many initiatives and to prepare the way for future successful enterprises, AIXTRON has set up local centers of excellence, where new customers can explore and experience first-hand the technology and equipment that the company offers.
