Carolina Center of Cancer Nanotechnology announces new grant cycle

(Nanowerk News) The Carolina Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (C-CCNE) has announced the fourth cycle of its Pilot Grant Program in Cancer Nanotechnology. This program is open to all faculty members at UNC-CH as well as to all members of the C-CCNE and potential collaborators.
The C-CCNE will consider brief proposals for basic or applied pilot projects involving nanotechnology in cancer research. The proposals must include innovative new approaches that are not part of the applicantís current research program. Proposals coupling physical sciences and biological translational research will receive priority. Applicants may request up to $50,000 for one year with the possibility of renewal. Highly successful pilot projects may be incorporated into the main research thrusts of the C CCNE for continued funding.
A cover page should specify the title of the proposal and the PIís faculty status and departmental affiliation. The scientific aspects of the proposal should be limited to 5 pages (Arial 11, single space) and include: Abstract; Specific Aims; Background and Preliminary Data; Research Design and Methods. A bibliography may be in addition to the 5 pages. The Budget and Budget Justification should be limited to 2 pages. Neither faculty salary support nor indirect costs are allowed. Please include an NIH-style biosketch for the PI, including current funding. Both scientific and budgetary aspects of the proposals will be reviewed by the Center Steering Committee of the C-CCNE.
Proposal must be submitted in electronic form (as a PDF) by December 14, 2009 and directed to R. L. Juliano, Ph.D. at ccne@med.unc.edu.
