SWeNT Carbon Nanotubes Know Offered By Sigma-Aldrich
(Nanowerk News) SouthWest NanoTechnologies, Inc. (SWeNT), a leader in high quality, single-wall and specialty multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNTs), announces that Sigma-Aldrich® Materials Science is expanding its offering of SWeNT® Nanotubes.
SWeNT's carbon nanotubes are synthesized using the company's patented CoMoCAT® process and feature high purity with highly consistent physical properties.
The items added to the Sigma-Aldrich offering include SWeNT® SMW100 Specialty Multi-Wall CNT and CG200. This new SWeNT SMW100 material was developed for applications that require significantly better electrical and mechanical performance than can be achieved with conventional multi-wall CNT, without the cost or dispersion difficulties associated with single-wall CNTs.
Target applications for SMWTM materials include conductive polymers, lithium-ion batteries and materials for structural composite manufacturing. Traditional multi-wall CNT products are typically used as a conductive additive for thermoplastic polymers, enabling molded plastic parts to be electrically conductive and provide electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. However, this electrical conductivity benefit often results in mechanical properties being compromised compared with the unfilled polymer. SMW can reduce or eliminate this compromise at a fraction of the cost of single-wall CNTs.
The SWeNT CG200 is a single wall, large diameter CNT with a high metallic tube content offering higher electrical conductivity.
"Sigma-Aldrich is widely recognized around the world as a world-class supplier of high quality materials," says Dave Arthur, CEO of SWeNT. "They have been a great partner for SWeNT, helping us serve the research market and supporting early stages of development for commercial markets with our line of high purity carbon nanotube products, produced using the patented CoMoCAT® process. CoMoCAT® assures consistent quality and is scalable to meet the needs of rapidly growing applications."
About SouthWest NanoTechnologies
SouthWest NanoTechnologies is a privately-held specialty chemical company that manufactures high quality single-wall and specialty multi-wall carbon nanotubes, printable inks and CNT-coated fabrics for a range of products and applications including energy-efficient lighting, affordable photovoltaics, improved energy storage and printed electronics.
