Excelitas Technologies Introduces Newest Single Photon Counting Module at Pittcon 2011
(Nanowerk News) Today at Pittcon 2011, Excelitas Technologies, a global technology leader focused on delivering innovative, customized optoelectronics to OEMs seeking high-performance technology solutions, introduced the latest addition, the SPCM-UV, to its leading-edge SPCM (Single Photon Counting Module) product portfolio, expanding the SPCM family's suitability into the short visible wavelength range. The UV-enhanced SPCM has peak sensitivity in the 400-500 nm range along with high photon detection efficiency (PDE) at short wavelengths, low noise performance, and high dynamic range.
The new UV-enhanced SPCM uses a unique "Geiger-mode" Si APD (UV-SliKTM) with a circular active area that achieves a peak PDE of over 75% (10%+ more efficient than other offerings on the market) at 500 nm over the full 180 µm active area. The photodiode is both thermoelectrically cooled and temperature controlled, ensuring stabilized performance despite ambient temperature changes. The UV-enhanced SPCM's performance parameters often surpass traditional photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) as well as current silicon APD-based SPCMs.
The SPCM-UV offers low dark counts down to <25 cps and the lowest dead time on the market, leading to high dynamic range of >25 Mcps. The SPCM also has low dead-time fluctuation, resulting in high linearity. This set of performance features make the new UV-enhanced SPCM ideally suited to photon correlation spectroscopy, ultra-sensitive fluorescence, confocal microscopy, particle sizing, single-molecule detection, optical range finding, DNA analysis, adaptive optics, and astronomical observation.
"Our new UV-enhanced SPCM-UV is an important addition to our market-leading SPCM portfolio and suite of low light level detection offerings, which also includes APDs, CPMs, and SiPMs," said Michael Ersoni, senior vice president and general manager of Excelitas Technologies' global detection business. "With our newest SPCM offering in the lower wavelength range, Excelitas will continue to lead the market in PDE, low dark counts, highest linear dynamic range, and highest uniformity over the largest available active area."
The SPCM-UV will also be available in different dark count selections. It is fully RoHS-compliant, along with Excelitas' entire SPCM suite of products.
In addition to the new UV-enhanced SPCM, Excelitas Technologies is showcasing its broad array of light emission and low light level detection solutions tailored specifically for the analytical and life sciences markets at Pittcon 2011 – Booth # 5060. Pittcon 2011 takes place from March 13-18 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
