UAlbany NanoCollege hosts 300 students for NanoCareer Day 2011

(Nanowerk News) The critical effort to prepare students for a growing number of nanotechnology-related career opportunities in the Capital Region and New York State took center stage on March 30 when the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany held its popular NanoCareer Day program.
More than 300 middle- and high-school students from throughout New York received a firsthand look at careers in the emerging field of nanotechnology when they visited the UAlbany NanoCollege and its $7 billion Albany NanoTech Complex.
A daylong event that addressed the national need to stimulate an interest in science and technology among America's younger generation, NanoCareer Day included presentations by CNSE faculty on the emerging science of nanotechnology and the career opportunities it offers; hands-on demonstrations explaining the role of nanoscale research and development; and tours of CNSE's Albany NanoTech Complex, with tools and facilities that are unmatched in the academic world.
Participating schools, and their counties, included: Averill Park Central School District (Rensselaer); Glens Falls Central School District (Warren); Newburgh Enlarged City School District (Orange); Tech Valley High School (Rensselaer); Waterville Central School District (Oneida); Fort Ann Central School (Washington); Syosset Central School District (Suffolk); Lake George Central School District (Warren); Greater Amsterdam School District/STEP (Montgomery); and Kingston High School (Ulster).
