Konarka Names Dan Williams Vice President of Product and Business Development

(Nanowerk News) Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in development and commercialization of Power Plastic®, a material that converts light to energy, today announced that Dan Williams has joined the company as vice president of product and business development. A prominent, respected leader in the industrial design community, Mr. Williams will direct growth and application development of the company’s proprietary Power Plastic® photovoltaic material, ready for market commercialization.
“With Dan’s business development experience coupled with his design expertise, Konarka is well positioned through partnerships and technology to begin taking its flexible, lightweight photovoltaic material to market,” commented Rick Hess, president and CEO of Konarka. “Dan will lead efforts to help customers to utilize photovoltaics by integrating our material into their product lines, meeting the growing need for new energy sources.”
Most recently, Mr. Williams managed the Boston office of Chicago-based design and engineering consultancy, Product Development Technologies, Inc. Prior to that, he held the position of vice president of design at Reebok where he introduced user experience design processes, combining design and business development practices focused on unmet market needs and emerging opportunities and technologies. Mr. Williams spent 17 years with Motorola in design leadership positions, including design director for mobile devices as well as heading Motorola’s Advanced Concepts Lab in Boston. Mr. Williams holds 49 design and utility patents related to computer, medical device and wireless communication equipment and has won numerous design awards. He is an affiliate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab and has lectured at MIT, the Harvard School of Business and Harvard Graduate School of Design.
“Having spent years in corporate product development, I will work to improve Konarka’s ability to get our OPV Power Plastic® into consumer and industrial markets by executing on my knowledge of market research and planning, technology deployment and experience gained through leadership roles in product design,” commented Dan Williams, vice president of product and business development at Konarka. “We will continue to work to partner with smart textiles, mobile device and portable equipment suppliers, as well as building systems suppliers that will integrate Konarka’s material into final product applications. Konarka is well positioned to help OEMs realize competitive advantage through integration of Power Plastic.”
Dan Williams will be located at Konarka’s global headquarters in Lowell, Massachusetts.
