The magic of science photo competition

(Nanowerk News) In 2008 the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) will celebrate its 200th anniversary. To mark this special occasion the KNAW will organise a number of scientific and festive events on the theme 'the magic of science', including a photography competition.
What is the magic of (your) science for you? Details of nanoparticles or a picture illustrating a mass psychological experiment – no matter how big or small – the KNAW wants to see it!
The competition will run from 1 June until 1 November 2007.
The intention of the photography competition is to share the magic of science (meaning all sciences including the social sciences and the humanities) with the world. Magic should be widely interpreted … from one-off scientific breakthroughs, photos of people, action pictures to everyday events, as long as it triggers the imagination and answers to the theme.
The KNAW aims to stimulate public interest in science. The picture that captures the magic of science best wins. Entries from both amateur and professional photographers are welcome. A specially selected jury will choose the winning picture in December 2007.
The winners will receive a 1-year subscription to a magazine of their preference. The first prize winner will also be invited to an awards ceremony at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in Amsterdam in the beginning of 2008; travel expenses and accommodation costs will be covered.
Deadline for sending in photographs is 1 November 2007
