I.P. University in India to launch new nanotechnology program |

(Nanowerk News) Following the approval by the Union Government’s Department of Science and Technology for a Rs.4.5 crore grant, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University will launch an M.Tech. programme in Nanotechnology from the next academic session.

“We have got an approval from the DST to run M.Tech on the campus. The Rs.4.5 crore grant will take care of two teaching posts and will help in establishing the course. There will be 15 to 20 seats available,” announced Vice-Chancellor K. K. Aggarwal at a press conference on admissions for 2008-09 on Thursday.

From the coming academic session, the university will be running 72 new academic programmes, including 10 new ones, in eight University Schools of Studies and 88 affiliated institutions.

Around 13,000 seats will be up for grabs, 2,000 more than last year.
|
|
The university has added one more School of Study -- the University School of Architecture and Planning -- on its campus.
|
|
“The school has recently been approved by the Council of Architecture and will be admitting 40 students for the B. Architecture programme from this year onwards. A certificate course in retailing will also be available from February 14. The University School of Management Studies is formalising its four-month course that will be a blend of knowledge about retail operations and development of soft skills,” Prof. Aggarwal said.

Also, in view of Delhi University’s refusal to admit pass-outs of Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, the university has granted provisional affiliation to the two institutions as well as Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital to conduct post-graduate medical degree/diploma courses during 2008-09.

“Admission to all the approved seats will be completed as per the schedule indicated by the Medical Council of India. Seat distribution for MD/MS will be with 50 per cent reservation for MBBS graduates of GGSIPU and the other half from any other university,” informed the Vice-Chancellor.

Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital are likely to start a four-and-a-half-year Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics programme from the coming academic session.

The University School of Law and Legal Studies is also planning to initiate a multidisciplinary BBA LL.B (Honours) programme from this academic session that will admit 20 students.

He also announced that the university Chancellor, Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna, had raised the retirement age for teachers of the university to 65, with a provision for re-employment till 70 years.
