EarthSky launches nanotechnology podcast series
(Nanowerk News) EarthSky Communications today announced the launch of a new series of 10 podcasts – focused on the emerging science of nanotechnology – as part of the nationwide Nanotechnology: Power of Small project.
The first podcast is available now. It features Andrew Maynard, Chief Science Advisor of the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies, who speaks with EarthSky about balancing nano’s benefits and risks.
Also part of this project is a new Fred Friendly Seminars series being broadcast on public TV stations beginning in April, 2008. The televised panels present a diverse group of experts who address how nanotechnology will change the world. Guided by host John Hockenberry, the panels struggle with real-life dilemmas of nanotechnology, from treating disease, to advanced information technology, to cleaning up the environment with nanotech.
EarthSky producers will be speaking with the panelists over the coming few months, to delve deeper into the technological complications and ethical implications of nanotechnology. Listeners should expect to hear what panelists didn’t say during the television series – and get a full picture of the issues surrounding nanotechnology, a science sure to be an important part of our future.
EarthSky is producing the 10 special Clear Voices for Science podcasts – approximately one weekly over the coming few months – in cooperation with ICAN Productions and the Fred Friendly Seminars, with funding from the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation.
