Molecular Imprints to Deliver Opening Address on Lithography Trends at DISKCON USA
(Nanowerk News) Molecular Imprints, Inc., a market and technology leader for nanopatterning systems
and solutions, announces that Paul Hofemann, the company’s vice president of marketing and business development
for hard disk drive (HDD) and emerging markets, will be the opening speaker for the special lithography conference
sessions next week at the DISKCON USA conference.
Hofemann’s presentation, titled “The Hard Disk Drive
Industry: Driving Areal Density and Lithography,” will explore new lithography strategies for overcoming the
challenging cost and resolution requirements facing the HDD industry. He will be speaking on Thursday,
September 18, 2008 at 8:10 a.m. (Pacific Time) at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif.
“In order to fulfill the needs of future consumer and industrial electronic systems, the HDD industry must push
memory densities for next-generation drives to well beyond one terabyte per square inch,” stated Hofemann. “This
aggressive technology roadmap necessitates the introduction of patterned media and new lithography strategies.
Molecular Imprints has been working closely with leading HDD manufacturers and co-suppliers to develop the nextgeneration
nanopatterning solutions the industry requires. Today there is considerable progress to report, and a map
to the HDD industry’s lithography future is materializing.”
Driven by the need to substantially enhance storage capacities and decrease cost, HDD companies are increasingly
turning to Molecular Imprints’ high-resolution, low cost-of-ownership nanopatterning systems for their discrete
track recording and bit patterned media development and pilot production efforts. Molecular Imprints has sold nine
of its Imprio® systems to the HDD industry in total to date, and seven systems to the HDD industry within the past
12 months—including to Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) and Yamagata Fujitsu.
Molecular Imprints will be exhibiting at DISKCON USA at booth #300.
About DISKCON USA
The DISKCON USA trade show is the world’s largest assemblage of companies in the data storage industry. It is
the only venue where attendees can preview the latest technology of both hard drive and solid state drive
manufacturing. DISKCON USA 2008 is held on September 17th and 18th at the Hyatt Regency/Santa Clara
Convention Center in Santa Clara, California. Visit www.idema.org for details on the technical conference and to
register for DISKCON USA 2008.
