University of Wisconsin-Platteville sets inauguration, symposium for nanotechnology center |

(Nanowerk News) The inauguration of the Nanotechnology Center for Collaborative Research and Development at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, including a symposium on Progress in Nanotechnology Research, will take place on Saturday, Dec. 6. The event will be held at the Pioneer Student Center on the UWP campus. The symposium will begin at 10 a.m. with the inauguration scheduled for noon.

The symposium will feature 10 short presentations by researchers at UW System institutions and nanotechnology companies Registration is free and begins at 9:30 a.m.

Mark Bradley, president of the UW System Board of Regents, will speak at the ceremony. Industry professionals, students, faculty and staff from UWP and other campuses will come together at the center. The mission of the center is to foster collaboration among the comprehensive UW System campuses to result in innovation in the science and engineering of nanotechnology to serve the people of Wisconsin and the Midwest region through high-tech business development; education of students to participate fully in knowledge-economy careers and to develop entrepreneurial competencies, and creation of knowledge for the public good. The center is a joint initiative with the WiSys Technology Foundation . James Hamilton, Wisconsin distinguished professor and professor of chemistry at UWP, will serve as director.
