iSketchnote, a disruptive iPad cover, launches on Kickstarter (w/video)
(Nanowerk News) CEA-Leti’s startup ISKN today announced its first product, iSketchnote, on Kickstarter.
iSketchnote is a smart iPad cover that integrates a new digitizing technology with the convenience of a notebook. It allows users to digitize their sketches and notes in real time with the added value of retaining a hard copy for their files.
The system comes with standard pens that include ring magnets and operate without electronics or batteries. They will come in a variety of colors, which are recognized and tracked automatically and in real time by iSketchnote’s sensor matrix. iSketchnote is the only tablet-based product that offers this feature.
“We were looking for a solution that combined the power of the iPad with the comfort of writing on paper. The experience of a pen traveling on a sheet of paper is a creative, tangible process that digital technology will not replace anytime soon,” said Timothée Jobert, ISKN co-founder.
ISKN is promoting the notion of “augmented value”, which defines the mutual enrichment of physical objects and digital technology.
“We are at the dawn of a paradigm shift, where the boundary between the digital world and the physical world – hardware – gives way to simple and creative interactions between the two worlds,” added Jean-Luc Vallejo, ISKN CEO and co-founder.
Developed with Leti sensor know-how over the past three years, ISKN’s patented technology will be integrated into many new devices and for multiple applications (3D animation, game board, whiteboard…).
“Leti’s goal is to accelerate technology transfer and to support the emergence of innovative companies like ISKN,” explained Pierre-Damien Berger, Leti vice president of sales and marketing. “If crowdfunding is an original way for a Leti startup to characterize a market, then iSketchnote is definitely the right product: disruptive and user friendly.”
iSketchnote, which comes with a set of pens and a stylish iPad cover, can be pre-ordered through Kickstarter for as low as $119 for the early birds. The regular price will jump to $189 following the Kickstarter campaign. iSketchnote is expected to ship in May 2014.
