UAlbany NanoCollege schedules nano job fair to assist in recruiting candidates for more than 300 new positions

(Nanowerk News) Further expanding its high-tech workforce in support of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s leadership in building a world-class nanotechnology industry in New York, the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany announced today that it will hold a Nano Job Fair on Wednesday, November 7 to assist in filling more than 300 current and future openings, to include a significant outreach to attract qualified women, veterans and minority candidates to apply for a growing number of exciting career opportunities.
“The Nano Job Fair next month is welcome news for all job seekers in New York, especially as the State works to stimulate local economies and create jobs for our families,” Governor Andrew M. Cuomo said. “With more than 300 positions available, the nanotechnology industry in the Capital Region offers many exciting opportunities for professionals of all backgrounds in this fast-growing field. I encourage New Yorkers to attend the job fair, no matter if you’re looking to get back on your feet or planning to take the next step forward in your career.”
“Led by the vision and investment of Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York is gaining worldwide recognition as the global capital of the emerging nanotechnology sector,” said CNSE Senior Vice President and CEO Dr. Alain Kaloyeros. “The Nano Job Fair demonstrates the success of the Governor’s innovation-driven economic strategy for a new New York, which is providing exciting and lucrative high-tech career opportunities that are open to all New Yorkers as part of this fast-growing 21st century industry.”
A significant outreach effort is now underway to encourage women, veterans and minority candidates to participate in the Nano Job Fair, scheduled for 5:30 to 9 p.m. at CNSE’s Albany NanoTech Complex. Candidates will have a chance to learn about and apply for the job openings, and to participate in introductory interviews with representatives of CNSE.
A wide variety of technical, engineering and infrastructure support positions will be showcased at the Nano Job Fair, including engineering and process operator positions for CNSE’s Global 450mm Consortium (G450C), Center for Semiconductor Research (CSR), and U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC); facilities operations technicians, with skills in HVAC and nanoelectronics tool fit-up and maintenance; and environmental health and safety officers.
In addition, a number of opportunities are available in administrative, operational and support positions, in areas that include information technology, purchasing, and site services, with roles ranging from security officers to cleaning and maintenance personnel.
Annual salaries range from $35,000 to over $100,000 for the positions, which are funded through the Research Foundation for SUNY (RF), a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that administers sponsored program activity for the University at Albany. The RF offers exceptional benefits such as healthcare, dental, vision, pension plans, competitive pay, generous paid time off, tuition assistance, life insurance and long-term disability insurance.
Individuals interested in attending and interviewing at the job fair are encouraged to pre-register and upload their resumes online at http://cnse.albany.edu/Outreach/NANOvember/NanoJobFair.aspx".
About CNSE
The UAlbany CNSE is the first college in the world dedicated to education, research, development and deployment in the emerging disciplines of nanoscience, nanoengineering, nanobioscience and nanoeconomics. With more than $14 billion in high-tech investments, CNSE represents the world’s most advanced university-driven research enterprise, offering students a one-of-a-kind academic experience and providing over 300 corporate partners with access to an unmatched ecosystem for leading-edge R&D and commercialization of nanoelectronics and nanotechnology innovations. CNSE’s footprint spans upstate New York, including its Albany NanoTech Complex, an 800,000-square-foot megaplex with the only fully-integrated, 300mm wafer, computer chip pilot prototyping and demonstration line within 85,000 square feet of Class 1 capable cleanrooms. More than 2,700 scientists, researchers, engineers, students and faculty work here, from companies including IBM, Intel, GlobalFoundries, SEMATECH, Samsung, TSMC, Toshiba, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, ASML and Novellus Systems. An expansion now underway, part of which will house the world’s first Global 450mm Consortium, will add nearly 500,000 square feet of next-generation infrastructure, an additional 50,000 square feet of Class 1 capable cleanrooms, and more than 1,000 scientists, researchers and engineers from CNSE and global corporations. In addition, CNSE’s Solar Energy Development Center in Halfmoon provides a prototyping and demonstration line for next-generation CIGS thin-film solar cells, supporting its leadership of the U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC). CNSE’s Smart System Technology and Commercialization Center of Excellence (STC) in Rochester offers state-of-the-art capabilities for MEMS fabrication and packaging. CNSE also co-founded and manages operations at the Computer Chip Commercialization Center at SUNYIT in Utica and is a co-founder of the Nanotechnology Innovation and Commercialization Excelerator in Syracuse.
