Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite-based solar cells have reached in recent years’ cell efficiency values rivalling those of established thin-film photovoltaic technology (CIGS, CdTe), even approaching crystalline Si (c-Si) records. The team that you will be joining at imec has established a renowned position in the field of such perovskite-based thin-film solar cells, with recently a certified world-record module efficiency. Beyond these results, harnessing the full photovoltaic potential of this new materials class requires a more in-depth understanding of the device physics determining the operation and stability of these solar cells. The charge transport mechanisms remain unclear, as well as the impact of ion movements or surface impurities on the charge carrier collection at the electrodes.
You will perform opto-electronic characterization (photo- and electro-luminescence, impedance spectroscopy ...) on perovskite solar cells provided by the team, with variations in perovskite crystal structure, contact layers and electrodes. You will determine the parameters relevant for setting up an equivalent circuit describing the device and the impact of these parameters on potential improvements in power conversion efficiency and performance stability.
You have a PhD degree in electrical engineering or semiconductor physics, with a background in photovoltaic materials or devices. You have a track record in thin-film photovoltaic materials or device characterization and have experience with equivalent circuit modeling. You are a self-starter and a hands-on person. You have strong communication and reporting skills. You can easily integrate in a multidisciplinary team within global context. Fluent English communication skills are required.
This postdoctoral position is funded by imec through KU Leuven. Because of the specific financing statute which targets international mobility for postdocs, only candidates who did not stay or work/study in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years can be considered for the position (short stays such as holiday, participation in conferences, etc. are not considered).
