Postdoctoral Researcher on Advanced Organ-on-Chip Systems

Cardiotoxicity is the major cause of drug withdrawal from the market, despite rigorous toxicity testing during the drug development process. This puts an enormous risk and pressure on pharmaceutical companies. Existing safety screening techniques (optical, impedance, cellular assays) are either too limited in throughput or offer too poor predictability of toxicity to be applied on large numbers of compounds in the early stage of drug development. At imec, a new silicon multi-electrode array chip platform is developed that will address those challenges. This technology platform fits in the broader strategy to develop more advanced organ on a chip systems. The team you are working in at imec is specialized in cell interfacing technologies to assess biological parameters from (adherent) cells and tissues. During this postdoc you will contribute to the development of novel assays in organ-on-chip and bioreactor systems.

You have a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences or similar. You have extensive experience with cell culturing, cell analysis and imaging. Experience in electrophysiology and/or microfluidics is a plus. You can easily integrate in a multidisciplinary team within global context. Fluent English communication skills are required.
This postdoctoral position is funded by imec through KU Leuven. Because of the specific financing statute which targets international mobility for postdocs, only candidates who did not stay or work/study in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years can be considered for the position (short stays such as holiday, participation in conferences, etc. are not taken into account).
