Development Engineer Electrode Coatings for Solid-State Li-Ion Batteries

Imec’s energy storage team is developing all-solid-state Li-ion batteries with high energy density, short charging time, long lifetime and intrinsically safe. In this growing R&D activity, we are currently looking for a development engineer to support the further development of the electrode coatings for solid-state Li-ion batteries. You will actively participate in the development of processes to realize these coatings successfully. For this challenging task, we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person with good technical skills, preferably in slurry coating processes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Development of new processes for powder-based electrode coatings in close collaboration with the responsible scientist or project leader
- Testing of electrode performance and physical characterization of the deposited layers
- Integration of the powder-based electrodes in solid-state Li-ion cells
- Regular and thorough reporting to line management and industry partners
Until mid-2018, you will be part-time employed in imec Leuven (70 %) and part-time in IMOMEC (30 %), imec’s associated lab in Hasselt. From mid-2018, you will be mainly working in imec’s new battery lab in Energyville, Genk (80 %), and partially in imec Leuven (20 %).
You are a self-motivated engineer, who seizes opportunities and is enthused by new challenges. You have a Master’s degree in Engineering (“industrieel ingenieur”) or equivalent by experience. You take initiative and work independently, while being part of a team. You can schedule your work according to deadlines and deliverables. You are creative and like to think with the scientists to solve problems. You have experience with process equipment. Experience with slurry processing of powder-based electrodes is a strong plus. Experience with material and/or electrical (cell) characterization is a plus. You are result-driven and flexible to meet stringent deadlines with quality output. You are flexible to accept new challenges in the future, and to evolve together with the changing R&D demands of our high-tech environment. The imec environment requires a good team player with competent communication and reporting skills. Given the international character of imec a good knowledge of English is mandatory.
