500 nm silica particles with fluorescence dye covalently bound in the silica matrix are availbale with red fluorescence (excitation: 569 nm, emission: 585 nm). These particles have a strong hydrophobic trimethylsilyl (TMS) surface. TMS functionalized silica particles are provided as powder that allow a direct suspension of the particles in organic solvents. Ultrasound treatment is recommended for suspension in ethanol.
