Hub Overview

The Copenhagen and Lyngby area is Denmark's nanotechnology center, and increasingly a European base for quantum hardware. The Technical University of Denmark in Lyngby runs DTU Nanolab, the country's largest cleanroom and an open facility where outside companies can rent space and fabricate chips, used by Microsoft and quantum startups to build quantum processors. The University of Copenhagen contributes the Niels Bohr Institute, with decades of quantum research and its own cleanroom for superconductor and semiconductor devices. DTU adds long-standing strength in catalysis and energy materials.
The two anchors sit close together, with the University of Copenhagen in the city and DTU in Lyngby just to the north, linked into the wider Øresund research region that reaches across to southern Sweden. The defining feature is the pairing of deep quantum science at the Niels Bohr Institute with an open fabrication facility at DTU that companies actually use to make devices. Strengths run through quantum technology, nanobiology, catalysis, and materials for energy and health.
