NanoBioX is an NYU initiative combining nanofabrication, nanomaterials, and nanometrology with biomedical research and data science, anchored by the NYU Tandon nanofabrication cleanroom.

The major research interests of the group are the design, fabrication, characterization and applications of various active nanostructures such as nanofibers, nanotubes, nanojunctions and nanotrees. The active materials currently under exploration include piezoelectric, piezoresistive or conductive, thermal electric and photovoltaic materials. The targeted applications of the various nanostructures developed are acoustic sensors for structural health monitoring, medical devices for thrombus retrieving, nanoacoustic waves for circulating cancer cell screening, chemical sensors for various gases and explosives, biosensors for stroke diagnostics, and energy scavenging involving mechanical-electric, thermoelectric, optoelectric and chemical-electric energy conversions.

The group is exploring nanoelectroics and nanomechatronics research areas based on low dimensional materials, including carbon nanotube, graphene and conjugated polymers.

The group is interested in studying the behavior of advanced material systems at the nanoscale. Particular material systems of interest include polymers and polymer nanocomposites, as well as thin film and piezoelectric materials of interest in MEMS applications.

The Nature Inspired Surface Engineering Laboratory is a Stevens research group in micro/nano/energy/thermal engineering with interests that include micro/nanofluidics, nanofabrication, surface engineering, and bioinspired functional surfaces.

The Zhang Group focuses on mesoscopic thermal, electrical, and thermoelectric properties of low-dimensional materials, using synthesis and fabrication techniques to create functional nanostructures, characterization methods to study physical phenomena, and machine learning to model structure-property relationships.

The Kretzschmar Group studies nano- and microparticles, especially their modification and assembly, combining chemical engineering, chemistry, materials and surface science, and molecular electronics to discover new materials and applications for nanoparticles.

The Williams Immune Nanomedicine Lab develops nanomedicines related to inflammatory disease processes, including kidney-targeted polymeric nanoparticles for renal diseases and implantable optical nanosensor devices for cancer and other inflammation-driven diseases.

The Nanoscience Initiative at the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center pursues interdisciplinary research across NanoBio, NanoDevices, and NanoMaterials, operating shared nanofabrication, imaging, and surface science facilities for researchers across the City University of New York.

The group's research interests span over a broad range of technical areas, including applied electromagnetics, nano-optics and nanophotonics, microwave, THz, infrared, optical and acoustic metamaterials and metasurfaces, plasmonics, nonlinearities and nonreciprocity, cloaking and scattering, acoustics, optical nanocircuits and nanoantennas.

The research of the Brus group is in the physical chemistry of materials, interfaces, nanocrystals, and nanotubes, especially in relation to optical and electronic properties.

The Lightwave Research Laboratory works on optical interconnection networks for advanced computing systems, data centers, optical packet-switched routers, and nanophotonic networks-on-chip for chip multiprocessors, developing nanoscale photonic interconnect technologies for energy-efficient data movement.

The group investigates the physics and applications of nanoscale photonic structures, including light-confining structures that slow, trap, enhance, and manipulate light for applications in communications, computation, sensing, on-chip modulation and detection, nonlinear phenomena, microfluidics, and multi-material device platforms.

Main research interests include Raman Scattering and other Optical Spectroscopy of Nanocrystals and Electric-field Assisted Assembly of Nanomaterial Films.

The Schuck Lab studies light-matter interactions at the nanoscale, focusing on sensing, engineering, and exploiting quantum and optoelectronic properties emerging from nanostructures and interfaces using nano-optical, scan-probe, and single-molecule imaging techniques.

Nanoscience and materials at NYU includes fullerene derivatization studies, chiral sensors and triggered materials, peptide nanotechnology; peptide surface interactions, molecular imaging agents, and proteins containing unnatural amino acids.

The Hybrid Micro/Nanomanufacturing Laboratory at Rutgers Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering translates the properties of functional nanostructures into mass-manufactured complex architectures using combinations of bottom-up and top-down, or large-area and small-area, lithographic techniques.

The Institute for Advanced Materials, Devices and Nanotechnology focuses on science and technology driven by atomic-scale and nanoscale manipulation of materials, and provides shared nanofabrication and electron microscopy facilities spanning physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering.

The Princeton Materials Institute is a multidisciplinary materials science and engineering institute, formerly PRISM, advancing nanoscale-to-macroscale materials research and operating the Micro/Nanofabrication Center and Imaging and Analysis Center.

The Engineered Metallic Nanostructures Laboratory studies the design, synthesis, stability, and mechanical behavior of metallic nanostructures, including nanocrystalline alloys, crystalline-amorphous nanolaminates, and metallic glass matrix composites.
