Hub Overview
Prague is the coordinating center of a Czech nanotechnology ecosystem with one genuinely distinctive specialty: nanofibers. Czech researchers pioneered industrial-scale electrospinning, the technique that produces nanofiber materials in volume, and the country became an early world leader in nanofiber production for filtration, membranes, and medical materials. Prague itself combines university research at Charles University and the Czech Technical University with Czech Academy of Sciences institutes and the industry associations that tie the national network together, spanning nanomaterials, coatings, optics, and analytical tools.
Activity is distributed across Prague's universities, research institutes, and company-support organizations, with strong links out to the rest of the Czech nanotechnology industry, including the nanofiber cluster around Liberec and research centers in Brno and Olomouc. Prague functions less as a single dense campus than as a coordination and commercialization hub for a national network. The country's distinctive strength remains nanofiber technology, alongside coatings, membranes, optics, and nano-enabled industrial products.
