Hub Overview

Israel's nanotechnology is spread across three research centers within an hour of each other and tied to an unusually active startup economy. The Technion in Haifa runs the Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute, Israel's first and largest nanotechnology center, with cleanrooms and more than a hundred faculty across many departments. Tel Aviv University adds its Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, and the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot brings deep strength in materials, surface science, and self-assembly. Together they are strong in nanomedicine, photonics, sensing, and water technology.
The three anchors sit in a tight triangle: Haifa to the north, Tel Aviv on the coast, and Rehovot just to the south. The distinctive feature is the pipeline from lab to company, since Israeli nano research feeds directly into a dense ecosystem of startups, often in medical devices, diagnostics, sensors, and water treatment. For a visitor, the region rewards covering more than one site, with the Technion the natural entry point for fabrication and the others for materials and biology.
