Nanotechnology is a specialisation within a Bachelor of Science (Honours). This specialisation is also available within the 3 year Bachelor of Science.
Nanotechnology is a specialisation within a Bachelor of Science. This specialisation is also available within the 4 year Bachelor of Science (Honours). This degree will equip you to be a part of this new industrial revolution. You will graduate ready to start working in a variety of scientific professions and to play a leading role in the future as nanotechnology grows, matures and reveals its full potential. Nanotechnology draws on the strengths of all the basic sciences and the course will give you a strong background in these sciences. In particular, there is an emphasis on developing computational skills and an awareness of the roles and uses of computers in science and society. From Second Year you will choose to specialise in one of two areas: Biomedical Nanotechnology; Quantum Nanostructures.
Students will develop the capacity to understand the basic scientific concepts underpinning nanoscience and the properties of materials and biomaterials at the atomic/molecular level and the scaling laws governing these properties. They will understand current frontier developments in nanotechnology, and recognise and develop novel and innovative ideas using a range of laboratory methods, specifically the fabrication and characterisation tools used in nanotechnology such as various microscopies, surface modifications and molecular level construction methods.

The Nanotechnology / Science double degree program aims to provide students with a broad education in disciplines that will underpin the science and technology, in particular nanotechnology, in the coming years. Our double degree course structure provides full coverage of subject areas, avoiding the compromises of shorter niche degrees where the supporting sciences are reduced to include the nanotechnology units.
This double degree program is offered by the Departments of Physics, Chemistry and Biochemistry, and enables completion of a Masters level nanotechnology degree in combination with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree focused on the disciplines that underpin nanotechnology. It provides nanotechnology students with a direct path from first year through to a Masters qualification. Graduates with qualifying grades will be eligible for entry into a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline area at La Trobe University. The double degree structure is chosen for the teaching of nanotechnology, as it requires knowledge of a broad range of supporting sciences and time to develop the required specialisation.

The Master of Nanotechnology is a comprehensive two year course featuring both in-depth lecture units, seminars by leading speakers and a wide range of practical learning opportunities. Graduates are equipped with the broad range of the skills required to flourish in the rapidly developing field of nanotechnology. The course has a strong research focus, with high achieving students, those in the Honours stream, working in state-of-the-art research laboratories equipped with world class fabrication and characterization resources.
Murdoch University offers the undergraduate degree Bachelor of Science in Nanoscience which may be completed in three years of full-time study or over a longer period on a part-time basis. A fourth year of study and research is available if you are selected for an Honours degree.
With this course you will explore classical and modern physics, investigating the physical world around us and beyond. You'll also learn about Nanoscience, the science of the really small, and gain an understanding of the rules and complexities of physics at finer and finer levels.
