Nanotechnology Degree Programs

The Graduate Diploma in Nanoscience program is available to graduate students who wish to upgrade their degree to include a specialisation in the newly developing field of Nanoscience. It provides both a theoretical background as well as practical experience which is gained from completing a major project.

The research degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) are available at Murdoch University.

This four year program combines majors in nanotechnology and either physics or chemistry and encompasses physical, chemical, biological and engineering nanoscience and nanotechnology. This double degree provides a strong grounding in nanotechnology, the science and engineering of materials less than a micrometer in size across the disciplines of physics and chemistry with substantial biology and engineering components.

This program leads to the award of a Bachelor of Science in Nanotechnology over four years of full-time study, with Honours for students who perform with merit. At present, the principal entry point into this degree is at Stage 1 level. Students are normally expected to complete each stage before proceeding to the next stage. A total of 192 units of credit (UOC) must be completed for the award of this degree.

This course offers a nanotechnology single major as part of the Bachelor of Biotechnology program.

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) program provides students with the opportunity to pursue an independent research project in an area of interest under the supervision of an academic staff member.

The Innovation Management Dual Majors prepare students for the growing focus of Biotechnology organizations and University/Public Sector based research groups on seeking markets for their scientific outputs.

This program investigates the basic theory and applications of nanotechnology in the biological and chemical sciences, in physics and in engineering science. One of these four streams is completed at Levels 2 and 3, with a major project unit in nanotechnology at Level 3.

Medical Nanotechnology is the application of the methods and techniques of Nanotechnology to medical and health areas. The student may also choose to specialise in Nanophysics or Nanochemistry opening up alternative career paths in industry (biotechnology, pharmaceutical, health, defence, chemical, petroleum, materials and engineering).

The Bachelor of Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary degree which is jointly offered by the Faculties of Engineering and Science. The degree targets the emerging field of nano-materials, molecular machines and nano-science. The course draws on major research strengths at UOW including: the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute, the Institute for Superconducting and Electronic Materials, the BlueScope Steel Metallurgy Centre and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science.
