Nanotechnology Research - Universities in Germany

The program Molecular Bioengineering aims to teach students the fundamentals in biomedicine and bio-nanotechnology combining biology and technology, which are linked in two ways: On the one hand, biological knowledge on cells is applied to develop the notion of molecular factories; on the other hand, nanotechnology and bioinformatics are enabling technologies applicable to engineer biomaterials for medical applications.

The Medical Nanotechnology group at TU Dresden develops smart miniaturized biosensing devices and systems using nanoscale materials and advanced microfluidics for precision medicine, clinical diagnostics and tissue engineering.

The center aims at providing the competitive edge in biology-inspired materials research for scientists, enterprises and public associations.

The Théato Research Group at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology works on new synthesis methods for polymers, functional polymers, surface chemistry, nanomaterials and materials science. The group develops synthetic toolboxes using polymerization and post-polymerization modification techniques.

Zunächst werden im Bachelor-Studiengang 'NanoEngineering' die grundlegenden Methoden der Mathematik und Naturwissenschaften erarbeitet. Die ingenieurwissenschaftlichen Grundlagen setzen sich aus Modulen des Maschinen- und Anlagenbaus mit den Schwerpunkten Mechanik und Thermodynamik, Elektrotechnik, Materialwissenschaften und Informatik zusammen. Parallel hierzu werden Grundlagen der Nanotechnologie aufgebaut.

CeNIDE is based on the strongly interdisciplinary research excellence in the area of Nanotechnology at the University Duisburg-Essen. This includes an exceptionally broad knowledge base in fundamental nanoscience, unique fabrication facilities for nanoscale materials in large quantities, and experience in questions of scalability and reliability.

Der Master-Studiengang besteht aus zwei Vertiefungsrichtungen, Nanoprozesstechnologie und Nano(opto)elektronik. Beiden Richtungen sind einige Veranstaltungen gemeinsam, in denen vor allem erweiterte Grundlagen erarbeitet werden.

Research in the Hirsch Group is focused among other things on fullerene based architectures and materials, chemical functionalization of new carbon-allotropes, and supramolecular aggregates based on dendritic systems.

Dieses neue Studienangebot ergänzt die bisherigen Möglichkeiten für Studierende im Bereich Naturwissenschaft und Technik um ein wichtiges Feld. Nanoscience & Technology ist ein Studiengang der zwischen den Naturwissenschaften und den Ingenieurwissenschaften angesiedelt ist, d.h. es ist eine gute Grundausbildung in naturwissenschaftlichen Fächern notwendig, um neue technologische Anwendungen erschliessen zu können.
