UK Nanotechnology SMEs take to Japan for business

(Nanowerk News) The Institute of Nanotechnology (IoN) has just returned from a successful mission to Nanotech 2011 in Tokyo. Together with the Nanotechnology KTN, IoN took key UK SMEs to Japan last week as part of International NanoMicroClub (INMC) initiative. The mission was a huge success for UK companies seeking to develop business in Japan, providing a unique opportunity to showcase their latest technology offerings, new products and services to the 46,502 attendees that visited the exhibition.
Meetings were organised between UK SMEs with expertise in electronics, sensors, materials, instrumentation and clean technology and leading Japanese firms such as Toshiba, Hitachi, Fuji Films, and Mitsubishi, as well as leading research institutes such as AIST and NIMS. Plus, as this event is the largest nanotechnology exhibition in the world, companies from all parts of the globe participated from countries such as Spain, Germany, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, Korea, Iran and Italy. The UK delegation quite literally had the opportunity to develop business on a global scale.
"No where else can such a delegation have the opportunity to meet so many potential customers at one time. The Nano Mission to Japan was a huge success and we believe many new business deals have been struck", stated Del Stark, Business Development Manager at the Institute of Nanotechnology.
The UK SMEs showcased new technologies for nanoparticle deposition in vacuum, personal screening devices for the early detection of colorectal cancer, nanomaterial dispersions technology, new particle analysis equipment, advanced anti-reflective coatings, quantum dots and high throughput synthesis.
Companies that took part in the mission included:
  • Mantis Deposition Ltd.
  • Bio Nano Consulting
  • Engrid Consulting Ltd.
  • BHR Group
  • Mode Diagnostics Ltd.
  • Izon Science Ltd
  • Promethean Particles
  • Oxford Advanced Surfaces Group
  • Nanoco Technologies Ltd
  • Ilika Technologies Ltd
  • The International NanoMicroClub (INMC) is a Technology Strategy Board funded joint initiative between the IoN and the Nanotechnology KTN.
