UAlbany NanoCollege Professor Shahedipour-Sandvik receives the UAlbany Award for Excellence in Research

(Nanowerk News) Dr. Shadi Shahedipour-Sandvik, Associate Professor of Nanoengineering at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE), received the UAlbany Award for Excellence in Research on May 3, recognizing her for exceptional research over a sustained number of years.

As a highly accomplished scientist and researcher in a broad set of fields ranging from nano-device engineering to quantum dots, her research focuses on development of high performance wide bandgap III-Nitride optoelectronic materials and devices. The applications for devices based on this material system include LEDs for solid state lighting; detectors for military (space-to-space covert operation), civilian (air and water purification), and scientific (UV astronomy) initiatives; and RF-powered devices for communication, among others.

Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik's funding record in securing more than $3 million over the last nine years from a diverse set of funding agencies and industry partners, and her large number of publications in high-impact, internationally recognized journals are a testament to her highly accomplished academic career. She is the author of over 100 scientific papers, holds three pending patents and disclosures, and is editor of three books on topics in energy applications.

Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik was among 13 UAlbany faculty and staff who were recognized for their outstanding performances in areas that include teaching, academic service, research, professional service and support service.
