This course teaches numerate graduates knowledge and skills in the field of nanotechnology and microfabrication. The course takes an immersive approach to learning both the principles and practices of nanotechnology and microfabrication with much of the material based around examples and practical exercises. Students completing this course will have a firm grasp of the current practices and directions in this exciting area and will have the knowledge and skills to enable them to design and build microscale devices.
The primary aim of this programme is to create self motivated master's degree graduates who are capable of entering a research and development post in academia or industry with a specialist knowledge of nanomaterials synthesis and processing.
The aim of the Centre is to provide a contral focus for nanoscience research in Cambridge, housing both a wide range of research equipment and office accomodation for researchers working on interdisciplinary nanotechnology projects.
Apart from research and development in all major areas of Advanced Manufacturing the Centre offers a service providing rapid prototyping, tooling and micro/nanofabrication (EDM, wire EDM, milling, laser ablation, FIB machining/deposition, hot embossing, injection moulding, nano-imprinting) to companies in the UK and beyond.

The Centre for Nano Safety is a multi-discplinary centre addressing the potential human and environmental effects of nanomaterials, incorporating human and environmental toxicology as well as microbiology.
The Centre brings together many different research groups working in engineering and the physical and life sciences. The Centre has comprehensive micro and nanofabrication facilities including one of the most advanced large area high resolution electron beam lithography tools in the world.
