Job opening: Egypt-IBM Nanotechnology Research Center Director

(Nanowerk News) The Government of Egypt recently signed an agreement with IBM to establish a world-class research center in Egypt with the objective of developing expertise in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The newly created Center exhibits state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, and establishes vehicle for cooperate with IBM in the field of nanotechnology. The Center will have diverse research programs covering a broad range of disciplines.
The Center is seeking a highly experienced, talented research and development executive to take on the role of Nanotechnology Center Director. The successful candidate will be a technical leader who has a proven track record of success in advanced technology and managing relationships between government, academia and industry to drive new avenues of nanotechnology. The Egyptian candidate shall have demonstrated the following attributes and be expected:
  • To lead and direct a new expanding technical and operational team in setting its technology directions, developing its technology and growth roadmap
  • To spearhead and market the group to be one of the top Centers in the world with a strong IP portfolio
  • To coordinate and foster collaborative research with industry & academia and to commercialize successful research programs.
  • To build and sustain excellent relationships at multiple levels in the workplace and has a strong network of external relationships and uses them effectively for future technology requirements.
  • To show diplomacy and genuineness in working with others and motivating others to pursue common objectives.
  • To exhibit strong capabilities in performance management and serve as a valued contributor to the Nanotechnology Center.
  • To welcome healthy debate, will have the intellectual fortitude to take intelligent risks in managing technology and the responsibilities of his/her people, and will be an individual of high integrity and with deep courage of conviction.
  • To size up and leverage the strengths, weaknesses and styles of key players and continually put high potential people in challenging assignments.
  • To have a clear understanding of the interplay of technology with respect to the business development decision-making process.
  • To travel as needed to work directly with partners and potential partners.
  • Qualifications
  • A PhD in nanoscience, nanotechnology, microelectronics or equivalent discipline with an outstanding record of high quality research and its industrial applications.
  • At least 8-12 years of relevant experience
  • A proven capacity to provide leadership and outstanding program management, technical skills coupled with proven business expertise and an ability to work with government agencies
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and manage research programs in relevant areas
  • Interpersonal skills in communication with government, industry and academics
  • Strong planning and execution capabilities
  • Work history will show the individual has the capability to manage effectively in a matrix environment.
  • Proven budget execution.
