UK micro-nano metrology center set to open in May

(Nanowerk News) The UK Centre of Excellence in Metrology for Micro and Nano Technologies (CEMMNT) celebrates its official launch on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at the Systems Engineering Innovation Centre (SEIC) in Loughborough, where its Hub offices are located.
Centre of Excellence in Metrology for Micro and Nano Technologies
This national event, which aims to bring together over 150 major players in UK Micro and Nano Technology (MNT), will provide a unique networking forum for anyone interested in the benefits of small scale measurement and characterisation.
Keynote presentations will highlight the importance of micro and nano scale measurement and characterisation. Graham Spittle, Chairman of the Government Technology Strategy Board, will provide a national perspective.
These presentations will be followed by case studies and panel discussions focused on practical applications. Delegates will be able to book a metrology surgery to individually discuss their measurement and characterisation challenges with CEMMNT partner scientists.
The event will also include a session outlining opportunities for industry to apply for European Union Framework Programme 7 collaborative research funding, as well as an exhibition including metrology equipment demonstrations.
The Centre of Excellence in Metrology for MNT - CEMMNT- will deliver vital measurement solutions and advice built on the knowledge base of NPL, QinetiQ, Taylor Hobson, the SEIC, Coventor and GE Druck, supported by a coordinated metrology capability that is commercially focused, and openly accessible.
The vision is to establish the UK as a world leader in MNT metrology creating an active bridge between the UK's world-class National Measurement System - NMS - infrastructure and the rapidly emerging MNT business and science base. CEMMNT will accelerate the development and transfer of knowledge, assure measurement excellence throughout the MNT industrial infrastructure, make a significant and demonstrable commitment to European competitiveness in MNT and stimulate inward investment.
