Iran Nanotechnology Councils plans technically ambitious nanotech olympiad

(Nanowerk News) The Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC) has decided to classify practical training and examination topics of the Students Nanotechnology Olympiad from this year on, officials announced on Monday.
Accordingly, the students will compete in different categories namely nanoelectronics, nanobio, nanomaterials, and simulation at nano scale, within a more specialized context.
Referring to the highlighted emphasis on assessing the practical knowledge in the Iran's third session of Students Nano Olympiad, Emad Ahmadvand, the secretary of the INIC's workgroup for promotion and public education, stated, "Unlike the previous years, we have decided to separate and classify the practical training and examination topics of the Student Nanotechnology Olympiad from this year on. Accordingly, the students will compete in different categories namely nanoelectronics, nanobio, nanomaterials, and simulation at nano scale, within a more specialized context."
"Introducing a number of well defined qualitative indicators in the financial support policy of the INIC for students' education was an advantage of the Third Student Nanotechnology Olympiad. This considerably improved the scientific content of the Olympiad preparation courses held in different provinces of the country," Ahmandvand reiterated.
Ahmadvand pointed to a virtual - internet based - Olympiad preparation facility, and said, "The virtual test version of the Student Nanotechnology Olympiad was intended to raise the preparation level of the students and was launched online four days prior to the real exam."
"We had approximately 4,200 participants for the second Student Nanotechnology Olympiad and surprisingly encountered a 375 percent increase in this rate - that is 16,083 applicants" Ahmadvand added, explaining about the quadrupled participation rate this year.
According to Ahmadvand, the 30 top ranked participants of the third Student Nanotechnology Olympiad will be awarded gold, silver, bronze medals and honorary diplomas at four different classes.
"In addition to those winning at the national level, the talented students as well as the local promotion organizations form each province will be recognized and awarded based on their scores," Ahmadvand added.
