New textiles - research and development in the textile-clothing-technical textiles industry

(Nanowerk News) The Textile Industry Research Association AITEX is organizing "New Textiles. R&D in the Textile – Clothing - Technical Textiles Industry", an Information Day which will take place on 31 March 2009 in Brussels, Belgium.
This event will be focused on the importance of innovation for the future of the textile sector and AITEX will present its R&D capabilities to develop collaboration partnerships with the main research centres and networks in Europe. The Infoday will bring together representatives from the industry, European and Spanish public institutions, policy-makers, and relevant research centres to discuss the promising potential of new research applications in textiles.
The morning sessions will start by introducing AITEX looking at its history, evolution, activities and latest accomplishments. Afterwards, attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about the importance of R&D as a differentiating factor to sustain the textile industry in Europe. In addition, the successful history behind “made in Green” will be presented as an example of the added-value of ecological alternatives.
The technical aspects of textiles research will be on stage in the afternoon through several parallel roundtables about the applications of nanotechnology, biomaterials, intelligent and functional textiles, new production technologies and technical and medical textiles. Experts from AITEX and other European centres will examine their strengths in textile applied research and the possibility to establish future collaborations.
Attendance to the event is absolutely free but seats are limited. To register, please follow the instructions you can find on www.aitex.es/infoday or write to [email protected].
The same week, on 1-2 April 2009, the European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles and Clothing will hold in Brussels its 4th Annual Public Conference entitled “From EU Research to Industrial Innovation”. To take advantage of the synergies and complementarity with the event we are organizing, the AITEX Infoday has been scheduled on 31 March, just a day before the Technology Platform’s conference. This way, participants will be able to attend both meetings focused on technological advances and R&D in the textile sector.
